Butterflies

I paint these postcard size butterflies in my studio next to Regent's Park, London, and they are the highlight of my day. 

 

When I make these, I try to connect with the most animal and instinctive part of me. I focus on the material; I enjoy the sheer colours, the waxy texture of the oil pastel, the abundant flow of the ink transferring from the loaded brush...

 

There is such joy in handling matter and this experience is meaningful to me. This enjoyment is the foundation of my creativity.
